AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT UMUERI GENERAL ASSEMBLY

YOU’RE VICTORY, OUR VIEW…

Sir,

First of all, we the UMUERI community members under the aegis of UMUERI Development Union South Africa [UDUSA] wish to congratulate you and the members of your cabinet on your victory to lead our community. We hope under your leadership our community will enjoy peace and development.
Sir, but before we will be caught up in the euphoria of your victory let us quickly remind you the challenges that faces your administration, amongst the numerous problem we face as a community is unemployment for our ever growing youths and under development. But the two are inter woven because without a concrete master plan on how to develop and practical realization of it there won’t be employment, therefore, first is for your team to draw up a program that our youths are [1] gainfully employed, [2] that our mothers, who incidentally are peasant farmers enjoy the profit that does accrue to them through their produce in a peaceful and good atmosphere. Finally, that our community UMUERI take its rightful place among communities in Anambra state.

ROAD TO DEVELOPMENT

Our community UMUERI and the entire communities in ANAMBRA East and West local Government Area are endowed with great tradition and culture, first is that it’s only in our locality that you find a particular kind of music [EGWU-EKPILI] that the entire Igbo people are proud of today, permit us therefore to say that we gave Igbo race their music. Our challenge is how do we as a community put this into an economic value? How do we take advantage of this abundant cultural and human resources to develop our community?

Our suggestion for your administration is that for us to do this we have to develop our TOURISM industry, because of our strategic location in the state we have no any other option but to develop our tourism potentials for the benefit of our future generation and the state. And the way to do that is for the cabinet through your leadership to earmark a large potion of area in OTU-OCHA that will be sold to any eligible UMUERI indigenes for the construction of modern day HOTELS/ MOTELS, RESTURANTS infact hospitality industry. In saying hotels, this structure doesn’t have to be gigantic. Everyone will have to build according to his/her own financial capacity, but all UMUERIAN should be encouraged to invest in this project. This if well implemented will go a long way in adding value to our fishery industry, agricultural output and entertainment industry and also will make every umuerian not only want to come home but will want to stay home, for ‘’no place like home’’.

Finally UMUERI is a great community with a great ancestral history in Igbo land, its right time we position ourselves in this direction of cultural/economic leadership in the state, so that every UMUERI youth will be able to say ‘’YES I CAN’’.

WE THANK YOU
